Each year the National AIDS Memorial hosts a national observance on World AIDS Day that brings leaders together from across the country for a national conversation to shine a light on the ongoing struggle to end the epidemic, progress made, and hope for the future. This year the National AIDS Memorial honored Quilt Founder and LGBTQ+ activist Cleve Jones with its Lifetime of Commitment Award. Read the news release.

Our annual World AIDS Day National Observance returns for a powerful in-person event in the National AIDS Memorial Grove. More than 500 guests and dignitaries will come together for an event streamed nationally for important conversations. Reflections with Cleve Jones & 35 Years of the AIDS Memorial Quilt

A World AIDS Day conversation with Cleve Jones, founder of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and advocate for health, social and LGBTQ+ rights.  Cleve shares stories about the Quilt, activism for justice, and his hopes for the future. State of the HIV/AIDS Epidemic Today with Leaders on the Frontline

A World AIDS Day conversation with leaders on the frontline who provide insights into the state of the epidemic today, work being done in communities locally, in the Southern U.S. and from a national perspective, and insights on the outlook in the ongoing struggle to end the epidemic. Moderated by ABC7 News Anchor Reggie Aqui. Special Guests include Tyler TerMeer, PhD, CEO, San Francisco AIDS Foundation; Diane Havlir, MD, Chief of HIV Infectious Diseases, UCSF; LS Jones, Prevention Access Campaign Mississippi; Scott Wiener, California State Senator.

Young Leaders Making an Impact with an eye on the future

A conversation with young people about their hopes for the future, how they are making a difference today, and how they are helping shape the future. Moderated by Michelle Meow, Commonwealth Club. Light in the Grove 2022 Highlights

(featuring special message from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi honoring Cleve Jones)

Light in the Grove returned on the evening of November 30, as a tented, indoor magical celebration of Reunion, Remembrance, and Renewal in the National AIDS Memorial Grove. Held annually on the eve of World AIDS Day, it is our largest annual fundraising event, with all proceeds supporting the mission and programs of the National AIDS Memorial.

35 years of the aids memorial quilt anniversary display

The National AIDS Memorial marked the 35th anniversary of the AIDS Memorial Quilt with an historic outdoor display in Golden Gate Park's Robin Williams Meadow featuring 3,000 panels of the Quilt. The free public event was Saturday June 11 & Sunday June 12 from 10 am – 5 pm each day.

Surviving voices - the black community & aids

The newly released “The Black Community & AIDS” is the latest chapter in the multi-year documentary project about the impact of the AIDS epidemic on various communities in the US. With a focus on the inspiring stories of Black activists and advocates around the country, the new mini-documentary and individual interview segments feature advocates and survivors who share their personal stories about why HIV/AIDS continues to disproportionately impact Black communities. The Surviving Voices mini-documentary “The Black Community & AIDS” won the jury award at the 2022 SF Queer Film Fest. (Filmed and produced in 2021 & 2022. Released in 2022).
